AWS Auditions

The Atlanta Wind Symphony (AWS) is holding open auditions for all instruments for the 2023-2024 concert season. The ensemble has needs for players in the following sections:

Oboe
Bassoon
Saxophone
Trumpet
Euphonium
Percussion

Auditions will consist of two rounds:

Round 1 of auditions will be virtual, consisting of a video recording of audition requirements. Audition video recordings may be submitted via YouTube from May 1st through July 1st. Finalists will be notified by mid-July 2023.

Round 2 will be for finalists, who will then participate in a live audition in mid-August. This audition may include Round 1 requirements, plus sight reading. Finalist audition results will be shared late August.

Round 1 virtual audition requirements for wind instruments:

1. Major scales - selected for each instrument, played without music, medium speed, up and down scale. Arpeggios following the scale are accepted, but not required.
2. Chromatic scale - full range of instrument, played without music, medium speed, up and down scale.
3. Two musical selections of 1-2 minutes in length each (such as etudes or movements from the standard solo repertoire), one showcasing lyrical ability, and one showcasing technical ability. No accompaniment.

For your information, Atlanta Wind Symphony (AWS) is a volunteer community wind symphony. We have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old. AWS rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30 pm in the Chattahoochee High School Band Room in Johns Creek, Georgia. Our concert season for 2023-2024 is from September through the end of June, during which we perform 5-6 concerts per year.
